Daring & Disruptive competition!

Happy New Year! Whether you are the New Years Resolution making type person or not, the start of the year is the perfect time to reflect on where you're at and your goals, dreams and exciting plans for the future.

If you are anything like me, you have probably read a million articles by now on making resolutions and goals, how to stick to them and plenty of inspiring stories along the way. Some of the things I am going to do this year include conquering my to do list (particularly those pesky things that have been there for longer than I would care to admit), blog more regularly and turn all of my blog ideas into action, finally establish a killer morning routine (no more sleep button) and take better care of myself… particularly when I am busy (I really failed at this late last year)!

Whatever your goals are, I want to give you the chance to kick 2015 off with a bang!

To help a lucky Making It Up reader stop dreaming (or reading posts about other people achieving their goals!) and start doing, I am giving away a copy of the lovely Lisa Messenger’s book, Daring & Disruptive.

If you have been reading this blog for a while now, you will know that I am a big fan of Lisa’s attitude, drive and absolute passion for life. I LOVED this book!

In case you need any more convincing, I flicked through my scribbled on, dog eared copy of Daring & Disruptive and found these great pieces of advice from Lisa for you:

  • Surround yourself with the right people: People who will propel you forward rather than pull you, or your ideas, back – fabulous, sharp minds who are creative but also savvy, who are dreamers and thinkers, but also doers … protect yourself from those who pull you down, who sap you of your energy and positivity, who trample on your ideas or quash your innovation"
  • You are your best asset: look after yourself! I agree 100% with Lisa’s point that when you stop looking after yourself, you can get stuck in the mundane. It’s hard to stand out from the crowd, or come up with a fantastic new idea, when you haven’t even made the time to take care of yourself. We’ve all been there. Looking after yourself is always essential, and is so much more than the resolution to “get skinny” so many of us make every year…. (this year, I am being healthy and cutting back on processed foods: it's totally different, OK?!)
  • Find your purpose to become detached from the little bumps along your journey. This was critical for me. I can be known to stress at the smallest thing, and despair when something doesn’t go to my well considered plan. I spent heaps of time last year thinking about my goals, what motivated me and what’s the reason why I get out of bed in the morning. I love Lisa’s advice to stop micromanaging your every move, when you see the bigger picture it’s okay to deviate along the way and be undeterred when things don’t exactly go to plan.

Don’t take my word for it; this book should be at the very top of your reading list right now!
