To new beginnings

I know, it's been a while. What I initially intended on being a short break from this blog, turned out to be much, much longer than expected!
While part of me can't believe that it's already March, so much has happened since I last posted.
The last few months have delivered some massive changes, and quite a few lessons.
Fun stuff first. I’ve moved to Sydney, started a new job… and the list goes on! In fact, I started my new job while I was still in Melbourne before transferring up to Sydney, which kinda feels like two new jobs!
I’ve been in Sydney for about six weeks now and the funny thing is, I didn’t realise how desperate I was for a change. I loved Melbourne, and I won’t lie… I took some convincing about the move to Sydney! One of my main concerns was about finding a job here, particularly given I was fairly fresh out of the legal world, and still feeling pretty uncertain about what I wanted to do next.
If you have been following this blog for a while, you will know that 2015 was a massive year of change for me.
I worked so hard to start a new career, build up this blog and my expertise in a new area, to meet new people and expand my networks. There is absolutely no way that this time last year I could have predicted what the year would bring… or where I would be now!
2015 had some incredible highs, but along the way there was some massive lows. Opportunities came up only to disappear just as quickly, I struggled to find the right job, and often felt unsure about where I was heading. Did I fail? Had I made the wrong decision? What was I going to do next?
With every achievement came fear and uncertainty that I would be caught out, exposed as a fraud.
Of course, that didn’t happen. I worked hard to get to where I was. But by the end of the year I was burnt out, intimidated by my never ending list of things to do, and prioritising everyone’s needs over my own health and wellbeing. I was unhealthy, tired, constantly sick and couldn’t wait for the year to end.
So, what happened next?
Well, nothing. I erased the to do list. I gave myself time to chill out. I caught up with family and friends over Christmas, had a great holiday and then returned to Melbourne where we packed up our entire lives in a bit over a week. Seriously, isn’t moving the worst?!
I made it to Sydney in early January and gave myself time to settle in. I focused on my work and learning everything I could for my new role. I said yes to new friends and adventures. Sydney is such a beautiful city and it’s been great to have the time to explore… weekends often feel like holidays and I really hope this doesn’t change!
People kept asking me (in particular, my Mum - thanks!) when I would be posting again.
I wasn’t ready. But over my break, things started to change. I began to feel the ideas flowing again. I got back on social media, and caught up with my favourite blogs.
2016, I’m finally ready for you. I can’t wait to see what the year has ahead, and can’t wait to share more advice and inspiration here. While I promise that my future posts will be less about me, and more about ideas, inspiration and advice for you, I felt like I had to explain my absence. If you take one thing from this post, I’d like you to remember that at the end of the day, you are in control. You have the driving seat, so make sure you are heading in the direction that you want to be going.
Until next week! I promise…
